It’s no secret that American history is littered with examples of truly horrendous crimes, most of which were committed by our own government. In the past, the feds have been known to confiscate wealth from American citizens, conduct scientific experiments on unwitting and unwilling subjects, round up citizens into internment camps, and commit genocide against native ethnic groups, among many other crimes.

In recent years our government has apologized for these incidents, and has tried to convince us that its brutal nature is all in the past. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth; especially in regards to the use of nuclear weapons against civilian populations, which our government has never apologized for. This actually makes sense, since they probably don’t even view mass civilian casualties as a crime in the first place. As our recent overseas wars have shown, our government still has no qualms about inflicting collateral damage, and no amount of apologizing for past crimes can cover up that fact.

So, unfortunately, it shouldn’t come as any surprise that the US government would consider using nuclear weapons in a modern conflict, which may have happened according to a recent article published in Der Spiegel. Make no mistake, our government is just as savage as it has always been.

The United States considered using nuclear weapons against Afghanistan in response to the September 11 attacks, Der Spiegel reported on its website Saturday.

Michael Steiner, who served as a political advisor to then-German Chancellor Gerhard Schroder, told the German daily that the nuclear option was one of the possibilities examined after the attacks.

“The papers were written,” Steiner said when asked whether the U.S. was considered using nuclear weapons in response to the attacks orchestrated by Al-Qaida’s Osama bin Laden, in which almost 3,000 people were killed. “They had really played through all possibilities.”

Steiner added that Schroder had feared that the U.S., which was in a state of shock following the attacks, would overreact.

Could you imagine? Our government may have actually considered using nukes against one of the poorest nations on the planet. What kind of sick mind would even put that option on the table? Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that our government has considered using nukes to quite literally level the playing field.

President Eisenhower threatened to use nukes during the Korean War, if the cease-fire agreement fell through. President Johnson left the nuclear option on the table during the Vietnam War, when US Marines were under siege at Khe Sanh. Even Bush Sr. made it abundantly clear that if Saddam Hussein used any of his chemical or biological weapons during the Gulf War, that the Iraqis would feel the wrath of our nuclear arsenal.

So this latest revelation isn’t as shocking as it would be in a sane world. The US government is still the unhinged genocidal war machine that it was in previous eras. And now that tensions are rising with nuclear-armed Russia, we can only hope and pray that cooler heads will prevail once again.
