This Woman Was Dressed So “Provocatively” That She Had To Be Edited Out Of This Ad

Saudi Arabia isn’t exactly known for being a country that allows freedom in…well, in much of anything.

The dress code there is quite strict – even men are not permitted to go topless.

The absurdity of the country’s dress code is represented in an ad Saudi Arabian retailer SACO shared on Twitter.

From The Express Tribune:

Posted on Twitter by retail company SACO on their official page, the image features a family lounging in a swimming pool with a glaring difference from the original image – as pointed out by a Twitter user who posted original image – there is an inflatable ball where there’s supposed to be the woman. Other changes include pix-elated faces and blacked-out bodies of the man and two kids.

No, this is not satire. Here is the Tweet:

The *ahem* creative editing led to a lively discussion…

وهاذي الأصلية اللي تم تشويها، بدلوا المرأة ببالون كارتون وعتموا على صدر الرجال والأطفال pic.twitter.com/KufT8MUr7T

(Translation, as provided by Twitter’s translator tool: The original was distorted and deliriously switched suppressed women and cartoon balloon on the chest of men and children.)

(Translation: This is easier than modifying the original picture.)

Will my pool come with photoshopped people as well?

It's got to have pixelated face people –everything you see here

— Deena Stephens (@deena_stephens) June 9, 2017

1. Why are their faces blurred out?
2. Are you seriously trying to censor this image with sexist religious rules in mind?

— Macoto Roger Fukuda (@RealMaRoFu) June 8, 2017

Wow, so the woman is equal to an inflatable ball? Way to go, idiots.

Saudi censorship is just fucking hilarious. The woman just became a ball. pic.twitter.com/xNsN452yhv

My eyes just popped out. What on earth is this monstrosity?

— VISHAL (@VishalManve12) June 5, 2017

This happens a lot. In my translation class we talked about an Ikea catalogue where they had erased every woman.
