Does “Consensus Science” Deny EMF Cancer Risks; Why Don’t Government Agencies Challenge Vested Interests?

This is not any easy piece for me to write because I know from researching electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs) and radiofrequencies (RFs) scientific literature, the damage that can be done to human health.

Recently, Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. Didn’t Senator McCain’s staff announce on July 19th that the Senator has a brain tumor called a “glioblastoma”?

PRESS RELEASE N° 208 31 May 2011

IARC CLASSIFIES RADIOFREQUENCY ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS AS
POSSIBLY CARCINOGENIC TO HUMANS

Lyon, France, May 31, 2011 ‐‐ The WHO/International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified radiofrequency electromagnetic fields as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B), based on an increased risk for glioma, a malignant type of brain cancer1, associated with wireless phone use.

The IARC of the World Health Organization produced the report Non-ionizing Radiation, Part 2: Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields Volume 102 [480 pages], which addresses cancers in humans and cancer of the brain.

Furthermore, more studies are pointing to cell phone use concerns and cautions. Study the “6 tips for minimizing cell phone radiation” for more information.

However, information from 2008 prompts me to wonder and also to ask if the two cell towers on Senator McCain’s Sedona ranch could have contributed non-thermal radiation waves, which are known factors that contribute to and/or can cause cancerous brain tumors, as rodent studies [3] confirm.

Back in October 2008, The Washington Post published “EXCLUSIVE: Verizon and AT&T Provide Cell Towers for McCain Ranch.” According to that Post article,

Instead, Verizon delivered a portable tower known as a “cell site on wheels” – free of charge – to the McCain property in June, after the Secret Service began inquiring about improving coverage in the area. Such devices are used for providing temporary capacity where coverage is lacking or has been knocked out, in circumstances ranging from the Super Bowl to hurricanes.

After a request from Cindy McCain, Verizon Wireless proposed installing a cell tower close to the couple’s home near Sedona, Ariz.

In July, AT&T followed suit, wheeling in a portable tower for free to match Verizon’s offer. “This is an unusual situation,” AT&T spokeswoman Claudia B. Jones said. “You can’t have a presidential nominee in an area where there is not cell coverage.”

Ethics lawyers said Cindy McCain’s dealings with the wireless companies stand out because her husband is a senior member of the Senate commerce committee, which oversees the Federal Communications Commission and the telecommunications industry. He has been a leading advocate for industry-backed legislation, fighting regulations and taxes on telecommunication services.

Everyone, especially the U.S. Federal Communications Commission and states public utility commissions, ought to realize and seriously consider the adverse health consequences from placing microwave towers just about anywhere, including on school grounds, on top roofs and water towers, and in fake trees.

In Sweden,

A new report by the Swedish Radiation Protection Foundation, Stralskyddsstiftelsen, has concluded that ever-increasing rates of both brain and central nervous system (CNS) tumors, particularly in Denmark, may be caused by persistent exposure to radiation from mobile phones, microwaves, and other “smart” technology devices that pervade modern society.

[….]

Authorities in the US, Sweden, and elsewhere can deny all they want the correlative, and potentially causative, links between the use of smart devices and cancer, but the science speaks for itself. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of published studies and reports that show cancer rates increasing right alongside smart device usage.
