I did not enjoy writing this article because I usually find myself rooting for the underdog, whether it is in sports or in politics. For example, I took great delight that I was able to take part in the greatest upset in American political history in which Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton.  Having been raised in Denver, I reveled in the fact, that after 17 straight losing seasons, the Denver Broncos have managed to win three Super Bowls.  Subsequently, when I look at immigration, it is the story of the down-trodden and how they have made a life for themselves. I can personally identify with this sentiment, because I am a first generation American on my father’s side of the family.

Despite my affinity for the underdog, I find myself adopting pragmatist views towards immigration. First, allow me to say that many immigrants are my Christian brothers and sisters. And those that are here, minus the hard-core criminals, should not be deported because it is a case of too much water under the bridge. However, there is something that can be done, and should be done, with regard to future immigration. The numbers simply do not lie.

The Truthful Answers Are Often the Simplest

Joe Guzzardi is a Californians for Population Stabilization and Senior Writing Fellow and he developed the following quiz on immigration:

“1) What, for the last three decades, is the average number of immigrants legally admitted?

2) What is the Diversity Visa, and name at least three countries whose nationals have received the DV?

3) Approximately how many refugees does the U.S. resettle annually? Name at least three countries they’ve come from.

4) Name the number of times Americans have voted on immigrant admissions, visa issuance, or refugee resettlement.

Answers:

1) More than one million, all given life-time work authorization, a total that continues despite 9/11, the 2008 mortgage meltdown, a slowing economy, and advancing automation. That’s about 30 million work permits since I wrote my first immigration column.

2) The DV, also known as the green card lottery, randomly issues 50,000 work-authorized visas to foreign nationals. Last year’s winners included Yemeni, Iranian and Syrian nationals whose governments sponsor terrorism.

3) For eight years during the Obama administration, the U.S. resettled nearly 70,000 refugees, also work-authorized. They came from, among other nations, the same terrorist-sponsoring Yemen, Iran and Syria, as well as Somalia, Afghanistan and Iraq.

4) Trick question. Despite its effect on important aspects of their lives like job displacement, school overcrowding and population growth, Americans never vote on immigration. Congress decides.”

The simplicty of this quiz is stunning, but at the same time, it is brilliant because it demonstrates that “We have met the enemy, and he is us”.

Does Congress Care About American Jobs and Wages?

We have passed the point in which America should have forced Congress to demonstrate whose side they are really on. Are our Congressmen simply pawns of the global elite and their sovereignty eradication programs, which are being achieved through unregulated immigration? It would appear so. However, the age old argument that immigrants merely take jobs that the rest of America will not take, is a bold-faced lie. This assertion is  100% false and is an outright fabrication created by the media to further the cheap labor desires of their corporate benefactors.

Congress needs to revisit the bill The Reforming American Immigration for a Strong Economy Act, or RAISE Act This act would cut legal immigration roughly in half, from one million new arrivals annually to about 500,000.

The part of this bill that I appreciate is the fact that the bill would do  for America, what other countries do with their immigration system in which they would screen immigrants on a points-based system similar to Canada and Australia for skills, education and English language ability. In addition, the RAISE Act would mostly eliminate the misguided “friends and family” program of chain migration that allows family members to bring their adult family members, who could also bring their relatives to America. This creates an endless stream of immigrants who are now competing for American jobs and they are winning in this competition, because they will work for less money and no benefits.

The people who say that immgrants take jobs that American citizens will not. That is absolutely untrue. Consider the following points about our failing economy:

  1. 25% of Americans do not have a bank account

  2. 75% of all created jobs pay less than $30,000 per year. This is the breeding ground for illegal immigrants employment in the United States

  3. Over half of America cannot handle a car repair bill of $400.

  4.  Over 300,000 waiters and waitresses have college degrees. Is this the occupation that they went to college for? And aren’t these jobs the ones that illegal immigrants take because no American citizen would work in this profession?

  5. Over one-third of the people under the age of 33 live at home with their parents. It certainly isn’t because they want to, but because they have to because they live in a failed economy.

  6. There are 97 million Americans who are employed full-time. There are 101 million Americans who are unemployed or under-employed.

Does this sound like a country whose citizens are refusing to take jobs and that the immgrants are not displacing anyone? This is why I call my work The Common Sense Show.

Conclusion

There is clear evidence that these economic factors are related very serious mental health issues. In addition, the immigration path that we are on has been tried before and with devastating results. America needs to answer a fundamental question: How many more 3rd world immgrants can America absorb until we are a 3rd world country? This will be the topic of Part 2 in this series.
