A verdict has still not been reached in the trial of 54-year-old Mexican citizen and illegal immigrant Garcia Zarate. The 12-person jury in the trial ended its second day of deliberations on Wednesday, and will reconvene Monday after a Thanksgiving holiday break. Zarate stands accused of shooting and killing Katherine “Kate” Steinle at San Francisco’s Pier 14 in July 2015, a case that spurred a national debate over “sanctuary cities.” (East Bay Times)
