Video: Subway Rider Hops On The OUTSIDE Of C Train

9-7-2018 < The Daily Sheeple 75 279 words

When you juuuuust miss the train and can't pry the damn doors open and absolutely refuse to languish on the sweltering subway platform with all the other losers and haters, there remains an extreme option which the MTA and NYPD and FDNY and people who clean up human remains would very much prefer you did not consider, on account of it being extremely dangerous and potentially fatal. Yet despite all the warnings and cautionary tales, some New Yorkers just can't resist the lure of the outside of the subway train, where fresh breezes and mole people beckon from the velvety darkness.

Straphanger Matt Beary took the above video around 8:30 a.m. on Friday, between the Clinton-Washington and Lafayette Street stations on the C line. Beary says the unidentified subway surfer casually hopped off the train at Lafayette Street; he tells the NY Post, "I just wanted to take the video because I thought it was awesome and also scary as hell."

You'll notice the woman on the right agrees about it being "scary as hell." The man on the left, however, has the classic jaded demeanor of a native New Yorker just schlepping to work in his private-public bubble of utter indifference. It's a perfectly surreal New York City tableaux.

The MTA says 13 people have been killed and 56 injured while hanging off a train between 1989 and 2011. Don't become a statistic. It sucks just missing the train, but on the plus side, you could find fame and fortune in a viral Gothamist video.
