How CBD Oil Helped My Arthritis & Celiac Based Digestive Challenges

CBD oil. What is it? Why do we keep hearing about it? I’m going to share my personal experience with CBD oil as Holistic Nutritionist of the Year for Canada, and why it took the lead for me.

Cannabidiol is extracted from the flowers and buds of cannabis or hemp plants. It does not produce intoxication; marijuana’s “high” is caused by the chemical tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

CBD oil has been shown to reduce inflammation, anxiety and offer relief to those suffering from both. No wonder we keep hearing about it. Relief from both health challenges without the detrimental side effects of pharmaceuticals.

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a major element, making up 40 percent of the plant’s extract and has a wider medical benefit than THC. CBD-rich cannabis can be prescribed for patients seeking anti-inflammatory, anti-pain, anti-anxiety and anti-spasm effect. CBD does not make people feel “stoned” or “high,” and can actually counteract the anxiety-driven tendencies of THC.

When CBD is at higher levels in medical marijuana, CBD can enhance TCH’s negative effects. CBD is the cannabis compound that has found to have significant benefits for treating people with anxiety. CBD is known to act on serotonin receptors and may help regenerate brain cells that are lost or damaged as a result of chronic anxiety and depression.

Yet, the increase in demands to feel the “high” produced by cannabis with stronger levels of THC eventually led to marijuana being used recreationally, as opposed to medically. For many years, marijuana production to increase the levels of THC led to the decrease in CBD levels to trace amounts.

Now Enter CBD Oil

As a celiac now for 28 years, and North America’s Gluten-Free Expert, inflammation is par for the course as a celiac and individual with rheumatoid arthritis such as myself. The pain one can experience after ingesting gluten is harsh. Digestive upset, inflammation in the joints and a myriad of other inflammatory responses become normal. I personally have been on a proton pump inhibitor called Tecta at a 40mg- 80 mg strength for over 5 years to manage some of the symptoms associated with both celiac disease and a hiatus hernia.

What is a proton pump inhibitor? Basically, it blocks the production of acid in the stomach to offer relief. Sounds great UNTIL you read the side effects associated with taking a pharmaceutical like Tecta.

Side effects include:
Abdominal pain
Diarrhea
Dizziness
Headache
Itching
Nausea

Ironic isn’t it? Taking a pharmaceutical to manage the very symptoms that are part of the side effects of taking such medications. Now add on the inflammation in the eyes that can set in as an individual with rheumatoid arthritis. Then add a prescription of cortisone drops and you create further destruction in the gastrointestinal system. One finds themselves caught in a vicious circle of managing symptoms by pharmaceuticals that only offer short-term relief while managing their side effects.

I kept hearing about CBD oil as in the industry and as any pioneer in this industry, you watch, read and listen. Then you try it.

I can very proudly say I have personally tried and am taking Nu-Leaf CBD oil now for 13 days and have not once needed to use either my corticosteroid drops for my eye inflammation OR my proton pump inhibitor. The results speak for themselves.
