Top MSNBC hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough have creeped out the internet with a bizarre Twitter post, appearing to pay homage to Special Counsel investigator Robert Mueller, placing his visage on a wall of their home.

As the Trump-Russia conspiracy theory wheezes out a final breath, media pundits who pushed the story are looking for ways to salvage their credibility, but two of MSNBC’s top hosts refuse to let it die.

You’ve got to hand it to them, really; the network’s single-minded effort to salvage the Russia narrative has thus far been impressive. Mueller’s investigation, hyped to death for months by breathless pundits, could not establish any illicit ties between US President Donald Trump and Moscow. That left much of the media in a state of panic, as they scrambled to explain how they could get the story so wrong.

Reacting to Brzezinski’s post, much of Twitter erupted into mockery.
