Spying Police Robots (Daleks) Coming To A City Near You

Six years ago, I predicted that Knightscope robots (Daleks) might replace police officers, and it appears that I was right.

According to CBS Los Angeles, the Huntington Park Police Department is using a Knightscope K5 robot to patrol public areas like parks and city buildings.

The Huntington Park Police robot, dubbed “HP Robocop” comes equipped with 360-degree high-definition cameras that allow police officers to spy on people in public places.

According to KTLA 5, Mayor Karina Macias is very excited to have police robots spy on people,

I’m very excited that we can officially call on HP RoboCop to help our police officers patrol our city, I am certainly impressed with HP RoboCop and can’t wait to see it in action. I’m already a big fan!

And why shouldn’t she be excited?

The Knightscope 5 website makes no effort to hide the fact that their robots are designed to spy on people in public places such as:

  • Malls,

  • Corporate Campuses,

  • Logistics Facilities Manufacturing Plants,

  • Commercial Property Warehouses,

  • Hospitals,

  • Airports,

  • Casinos,

  • Stadiums,

  • Gas Stations,

  • Data Centers, Auto Auctions,

  • and Parking Structures

Police will also use Robocop’s thermal imaging cameras to spy on everyone and blacklist or whitelist cars and people.

That’s because Knightscope’s K5 comes equipped with “quad automatic license plate recognition that whitelist, blacklist, excluded and unknown plates.”

Robocop and public TSA-style scanners are an Orweillian nightmare.

I wish I could tell you that this is the end of this story but I cannot.

According to an article in Your Central Valley, the HP RoboCop or Dalek, “will be able to roll down sidewalks and recite phrases to members of the public, such as excuse me and good day to you.”

If you are a Doctor Who fan like myself, you know that one of the more ominous phrases that Dalek’s use is “all inferior creatures are to be considered the enemy of the Daleks, and destroyed.”

If you were to change a few of those words, it gives a whole new meaning to Big Brother’s Robocop, “all citizens are considered suspicious and enemies of the State and will be detained.”

How long will it be before police officers use Robocop to intimidate the public or use robots to detain you in your car? How long before Robocops are equipped with a Taser, mace or a weapon?

Knightscope seems to think that painting Robocops makes them more appealing.

A painted Robocop is still a spying robot

Painting Robocops to look like a friendly snowman is appalling and does not make them more appealing.

Big Brother is not content with putting surveillance cameras everywhere and turning our cities into spying smart cities, now they want to put spying police robots on our streets: this is madness.

In a few years, America will be unrecognizable, people will be spied on and searched the moment they walk out their doors.
