by Andrew West, Freedom OutPost:

President Donald Trump continues to face scrutiny over his requests to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky this week, as Congress prepares to begin their first session of 2020…one that will almost certainly see an impeachment trial against the Commander in Chief commence in the Senate.

Democratic lawmakers allege Trump’s request that Zelensky open up investigations into Hunter Biden’s work with Burisma, a Ukrainian natural gas company, was an attempt to smear his father Joe Biden, former Vice President and possible 2020 opponent of Trump.  The President maintains that this was merely a piece of the larger puzzle, in which Trump was doing his due diligence in assuring that Ukraine was working to root out corruption in their nation.  After all, this was a prerequisite for the aid that the United States has been sending to Ukraine.

While some on the left continue to ignore the shadier details of the Hunter Biden saga, a few liberal stalwarts are beginning to see the light.

On Sunday, CNN’s Jake Tapper had the following to say:

It’s true that there’s no evidence of any wrongdoing by Vice President Biden or that Hunter Biden broke any laws at all. But frankly, it does stink that Hunter Biden got this contract with no expertise in the energy sector and likely — he already said basically that he probably got that money, which was significant, because of his connection with his father, the vice president of the time, who was also in charge of Ukraine at the time. Do you think future presidents and vice presidents should say my relatives cannot cash in, in any way, on their connection to me?

This specter was also raised during the House’s impeachment inquiry, with several witnesses being forced to admit that the impression of an impropriety in the case was almost unavoidable.
