The Senate impeachment trial of Donald Trump is off to a bizarre start, just as many believed would be the case.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell still seems adamant that the trial will proceed without any witnesses being called to the stand, but that issue won’t be settled fully until a Friday vote occurs. Given the latest revelations from former national security adviser John Bolton, mustering the votes to block witnesses could be a tough task for the Kentucky Senator…and Bolton’s not the only person that the Democrats would like to hear from.

Another such individual is Lev Parnas:  An indicted associate of the President’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani who has turned on both Trump and the former NYC Mayor in recent weeks.  Just yesterday, Parnas took his antics to the next level, arriving at the Capitol with a message for the Democrats.

President Trump’s impeachment trial continued Wednesday with a media spectacle as Lev Parnas, an indicted Rudy Giuliani associate, showed up at the Capitol volunteering himself as a trial witness to senators.

“Call me,” Parnas said as he arrived on Capitol Hill.

Parnas said he came to Washington to make the case for witnesses in the impeachment trial and urged Republicans to vote in favor of allowing more evidence rather than ending the trial on Friday.

Free on bail on federal criminal charges in Manhattan, in recent weeks Parnas started a media tour that’s created headaches for the White House and Trump allies. He released a trove of documents and texts to House impeachment investigators, including a handwritten note that mentions the president of Ukraine: “Get Zalensky [sic] to announce that the Biden case will be investigated.”

Parnas has repeatedly insinuated that President Trump was “in” on the alleged scheme to extort Ukraine using congressionally-approved military aid as leverage – something that impeachment investigators have been unable to fully prove thus far.

Given his status as an indicted individual, however, many see Parnas as someone who is simply fishing for leniency before his upcoming sentencing.
