As the fallout from the Robert Mueller “RussiaGate” investigation finally begins to wane, there are but a few loose ends left to tie off.

The most prominent point of straggling comes to us from the case against Roger Stone, who has been convicted of lying to Congress during the lengthy and expensive investigation.  Given Stone’s close ties to President Trump, it has been long believed that the political provocateur could wind up on the receiving end of a presidential pardon.

Donald Trump added to that speculation today, the day of Stone’s sentencing.

President Trump on Thursday tweeted a clip of a Fox News host calling on him to pardon longtime ally Roger Stone.

“Trump could end this travesty in an instant with a pardon and there are indications tonight that he will do that,” the clip showed Tucker Carlson saying Wednesday night.

“Democrats will become unhinged if Trump pardons Stone, but they’re unhinged anyway,” Carlson added.

Trump did not add any commentary in the posting.

Stone’s sentencing has already received a great deal of attention thanks to President Trump’s earlier tweets condemning what he saw as an exorbitant punishment of up to nine years in jail.

In actuality, Stone was sentenced to 44 months behind bars, of which he may end up serving very little…if the President’s tweets are any indication of how the White House will respond.
