As coronavirus concerns around the nation continue to percolate, the President himself may have very well been in the danger zone this week.

President Trump has long insisted that the virus itself is “under control” here in the United States, and the numbers seem to confirm this declaration.  Deaths within the US are still hovering around the two-dozen mark, with most of those who’ve passed coming form high risk populations, such as the elderly and immunocompromised.

But an attendee at CPAC this week has tested positive for COVID-19, the novel strain that is wreaking havoc around the globe.  That attendee was a full participant in the proceedings before testing positive, and his contact with a number of prominent Congressmen is now a cause for concern in the White House.

Hours before Rep. Matt Gaetz announced he was self-quarantining because of exposure to a patient with coronavirus the Florida Republican was spotted getting on Air Force One with President Donald Trump for a flight up the East Coast.

Days before Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., announced he was voluntarily in self-quarantine, he was seen meeting with Trump at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, shaking the president’s hands on the tarmac before the visit.

Though there is zero indication the president has been exposed to the virus – both lawmakers said they have no symptoms and are isolating themselves out of an abundance of caution – but the incidents underscore the difficulty in containing a virus, particularly among politicians who travel frequently and are quick to grip hands.

President Trump is also a known germaphobe whose hand washing habits have been described as nearly religious in nature – a tactic that the CDC and other medical authorities have indicated is the key to preventing the spread of the virus.
