NEW ROCHELLE, New York (INTELLIHUB) — While mainstream outlets are busy trying to convince the general public that the city’s newly announced COVID-19 “containment zone” will not become militarized in any way, the U.S. military is preparing to deploy National Guard troops to help mitigate the spread of the virus and enforce a 14-day containment order in which large social gatherings will be banned.

The containment order blankets a 1 square mile and starts on Thursday, March 12 and ends on March 25.

New Rochelle Mayor Noam Branson said in a press conference on Tuesday that the National Guard would be helping with logistical operations such as cleaning and handing out food and supplies.

The guard will not a “military of policing function,” the mayor said. “Don’t worry about the guard being here they are here to help you.”

A total of 3 schools will be closed and sanitized during the containment period.
