The New York Times’ “dream Cabinet” reaffirms my view that there are now essentially three political parties in the US: neoliberals, Trumpists, and social democrats. Notice how this NYT “dream Cabinet” includes both Democraps and Repugnicans, but all of the figures mentioned are neoliberals. What I see happening here is the left and right wings of the ruling class coming closer together to deflect faux populists from the left and right. They don’t want a loose cannon like Trump managing the Empire (particularly when he gives lip service to “isolationism” or “economic populism”) and they don’t want anyone who will attack their class interests, not even on a meek rhetorical level like Bernie Sanders.
