It wouldn’t personally bother me if we had schools named after serial killers like Ted Bundy or Jeffrey Dahmer, or famous gangsters like Al Capone or John Dillinger. In fact, I’d likely be in favor of it. But I understand the psychological and ideological reasons for this kind of stuff. And black kids who are treated unfairly by the public school system certainly should protest. However, there are just as many redneck/white trash types in Hanover who hate cops as they are blacks and liberal/leftist young people. Hanover has a massive heroin/opioid problem and a lot of poor whites there have been victimized by the drug war. What is happening at the present time is a genuine popular rising, despite co-opation efforts by the managerial class and the left-wing of capitalism. But, as I would have anticipated, many people (left/right black/white or other) also want to turn this into an inter-tribal civil war. Not a good plan, folks. Read up on a place that was once called Yugoslavia.
About 100 Hanover County students, parents and teachers protested outside a School Board meeting Tuesday, saying racism is present in the school system’s culture and demanding new names for Lee-Davis High School and Stonewall Jackson Middle School as the board met in closed session to discuss a lawsuit over the school names.
In May, a judge dismissed the Hanover NAACP’s lawsuit to change the name of the two schools, ruling it could not proceed because the statute of limitations had expired. Robert Barnette, the president of the group, said the NAACP is considering an appeal.
