One important insight that Carlson provides in this, in the midst of his Spiro Agnew impersonation, is that the near universal consensus among the power elite has been in favor of cooptation rather than repression of the insurrection, and that even the right-wing of the ruling class does not regard the uprising as a genuine threat. The only section of the ruling class that has dissented from this consensus has been some of the old bourgeois sectors associated with Conservatism, Inc. and much of that seems to be faux outrage intended for the sake of producing riot porn to disseminate to their right-wing of the working to middle class constituents (i.e. the useful idiots that provide the Republican base).
