by Geoffrey Grinder, Now The End Begins:
Breonna Taylor was shot and killed by LMPD officers who were serving a warrant on her apartment back in March. The level of violent unrest will almost exclusively depend on whether charges are brought against the three officers involved, Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly, officer Myles Cosgrove and former officer Brett Hankison. Taylor’s family has already received a $12 million dollar settlement after a wrongful death lawsuit, but tensions are virtually guaranteed to spill over into chaotic disorder if the officers escape charges.

How bad are things in America right now? So bad that a state of emergency needs to be called and most of an entire city downtown boarded up in order to announce a verdict in a pending court trial. I thought these type of things only happened in third world nations where the law of the jungle supersedes the rule of law. Welcome to the new jungle, America’s democratically-controlled cities.

It breaks my heart that Breonna Taylor was shot and killed during a police raid on her home where they were serving her a warrant connected to illegal drugs and weapons. Breonna Taylor’s ex-boyfriend was a convicted drug dealer, and police suspected that her apartment was being used as a drop. When police arrived and knocked on the door, Taylor’s new boyfriend shot at the cops wounding one, and the cops shot back, killing Breonna. From there things rapidly spiraled out of control.

These events are tragic to say the least, but when these things happen, we have a court process by which all the evidence is considered and a jury and/or judge decide the truth of what actually happened. We don’t allow angry mobs to decide who is right and who is wrong, that is anarchy, and that’s what the city of Louisville is expecting to happen this afternoon. I have a funny feeling that no matter what the verdict is, the mob is going to riot. State of emergency indeed.

Journalist Hayes Gardner posted a series of images illustrating how the city is gearing up for the unrest. The city’s courthouse has been closed all week and is being protected, along with three other federal buildings, by Homeland Security agents.

Gas stations and shop fronts have also had protective measures added, while access to downtown is being heavily restricted.
