Caviar for Apple but the Irish Poor Must Pay Yet Again for Water

Oct 11th at 2 pm, Irish people are set to march in their thousands on O’Connell Street

Like springs and wells bubbling up from the subterranean aquifer that is Ireland, finally, grief and desperation driven, resistance is springing up all over the country in the form of the Irish Water Meter Protests. Poor and working people are sore because they already pay for water through central taxation and they do not want to pay Irish Water, a Private Company Limited by Shares, a second time for this service. The impact of the charges incurred will be like ten austerity budgets in one. To add insult to injury this company wants the people’s PPS social security numbers so they can add it as an asset on their balance sheet. The incorporation of this company leaves it clear for corporate privatization two years hence. The banksters have their greedy eyes on Ireland’s Blue Gold.

Tomorrow, Oct 11th at 2 pm, Irish people are set to march in their thousands on O’Connell Street.

Six years of austerity budgets have left ordinary Irish people really poor and really sore. ‘1.6 million adults are left with Euro 50 or less after they pay bills each month. In addition, up to 70% are unable to save money and 40% scrimp on other household items, primarily food, in order to pay energy bills.’ These figures were compiled before the 2014 austerity budget.

With Troika demanded water metering in process, Irish citizen’s last 50 Euro (p.m.) is set to be swallowed up by the voracious appetite of the controlling bankster elite and their cronies. The impact of the charges incurred will be like ten austerity budgets in one. The so called ‘recovery’ is only for the top earners and the other foreign, tax avoiding, corporations.

Over the past two days the minister for finance promised tax cuts to the top earners and the Tanaiste (second in command) complained that ordinary people should not be allowed own camera phones. Water protesters have been filming protests where alleged excessive Garda (police) force has been employed. The police are starting to look like a Black Water style security firm.

Ireland is already a high tax economy unless you are Apple or one of the other super wealthy corporations or individuals based here. People are to the pin of their collar, desperate and angry at the injustice of being coerced into yet another charge for a service that they already pay for. They abhor the privatization of their natural resources and are getting to the point of talking about self immolation or other dramatic suicide bids in order to get the attention of the international media.
Water is a human right and a public good, not a commodity.
