Happy Columbus Day! Today is the day when many countries across the Americas celebrate the date of the explorer Christopher Columbus’ arrival at the island he named San Salvador during his first expedition to the New World, thus inaugurating the establishment of European civilization in the American hemisphere. The day is a federal holiday in the United States.

While it remains a hallowed tradition in the US, in recent decades, the forces of political correctness have attempted to undermine the designation of Columbus Day as a holiday on the grounds that it is symbolic of the mistreatment of the indigenous American peoples.
