Sign the petition: Speaker Mike Johnson trying to block an overhaul of America’s mass surveillance

Reforming America’s system of mass surveillance does not split Congress along partisan lines. There’s support across the political spectrum for overhauling the government’s domestic spying powers — but GOP Speaker Mike Johnson is trying to scuttle reform efforts and a final vote is likely happening TODAY.1

Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) is abused by the government to spy on Americans by collecting and searching through international communications without a warrant. In fact, he and the House Intelligence Committee are trying to stop anyone in Congress from even having the chance to vote on closing the data broker loophole (by requiring court orders before the agencies buy location information about us from data brokers).

Congress has a chance to end these abuses — with a final House vote happening any moment now we urgently need to speak out so Mike Johnson can’t stop these much-needed reforms.

Sign the petition: Don’t let Speaker Johnson stand in the way of legislation to rein in mass government surveillance in America!

The alliance of big foreign data brokers,2 spying agencies, and Speaker Johnson adds up to a crusade against privacy, and it must be stopped if the Fourth Amendment is going to survive in the digital age.

Because government agencies like the FBI and NSA, and even local law enforcement, use the data broker loophole to obtain our information without a warrant, buying troves of personal data from private companies. This system exposes our private data and allows companies like Elon Musk’s Twitter/X to profit off of the sale of our information.3

Elon Musk shouldn’t be profiting off of our data and government surveillance.

Votes to reform FISA are happening right now, but Mike Johnson is trying to stop any reforms. We need to tell Congress to end this broken system of warrantless surveillance and protect the privacy of people in the United States.

Add your name: Congress must reject the extension of dangerous, unlawful spying under Section 702 of FISA.
