Police in Indonesia have shot at 52 suspected petty criminals resisting arrest and killed 11 of them in the lead up to next month’s Asian Games. As part of a police crackdown on criminal behavior, 2,000 people have been arrested. A total of 320 people have been shot as a warning to others, with police making no apology for taking "firm measures" against criminals in Jakarta. Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have condemned Jakarta police for their heavy-handed approach to fighting crime.
